The 70/20/10 Learning Model

Project Overview:  

This animated explainer video introduces the 70/20/10 learning model, a foundational framework in modern talent development. Created to support internal learning strategy conversations at USAA, the video is designed to help employees and leadership quickly grasp how learning happens in the workplace—and how to design more impactful development programs.

The goal was to simplify a research-backed model and deliver it in a way that’s engaging, visual, and memorable.

My Role:  
Script Development: Translated instructional content into an easy-to-follow narrative based on the 70/20/10 framework.
Visual Concepting & Storyboarding: Designed a clean, modern aesthetic that aligns with corporate learning materials while maintaining approachability.
Design & Animation: Animated key concepts using After Effects to visually represent the breakdown of experiential (70%), social (20%), and formal (10%) learning.
Video Editing & Sound Design: Edited and synced narration and background music to maximize clarity and pacing using Premiere Pro.
Collaboration: Worked with L&D leadership to ensure message alignment with enterprise development strategy.

USAA Branded Assets: Incorporated existing design elements to maintain brand consistency.

Outcome:  
The final animated explainer video was used in onboarding programs, learning strategy sessions, and leadership development workshops. It helped spark conversations about learning behavior and empowered managers to think more holistically about development opportunities.

It also improved retention of the 70/20/10 concept compared to traditional slide decks—learners described the video as “clear, helpful, and visually engaging” in post-session surveys.
